Richard Johanson
Started his survey profession during his Military tour as an Artillery survey specialist. This was interesting work, which required locating ones position on earth Via. Solar, and Star measurements. This complex mathematical positioning was required before the advent of GPS, and was based on Latitude and Longitude, known as the World Global System; the base system from which (GPS) Global Positioning System was later developed.
The military tour program for College Studies at the University of Utah, where he specialized in, Science and Engineering; prior too, during, and after joining the Fort Douglas 4th Artillery Army Reserve Battalion. Military training included not only classes, but required spending interesting Summer Camps, Surveying, and aligning Cannons to hit targets 10 to 20 miles away. This Military training with University classes, provided the base for his work in the private sector at an earlier age. And the continuing work with numerous Engineering Firms, provided for a broad view, and rounded experience in the Surveying, and Engineering Profession.
Work in the private sector included companies such as: Bush & Gudgell Engineering, Coon King & Knowlton Engineering, Engineering Consortium, and other companies. The various projects encountered included work on Government contracts for the Military, Power Plants, and other large projects. This experience allowed for the advancement to a District Supervisor, and survey manager for two Offices under the guidance of Power Elevation, a subsidiary of the large Petroleum Information Corporation. The duties included running the office in Green River/Rock Springs Wyoming, and Durango Colorado. This work in the oil and exploration industry provided experience to manage, and work within large companies.
This work spanned approximately 5 years, at which time he returned to the Salt Lake Basin. Founding a Engineering Company working for many clients, and a wide variety of projects.
Richard started Johanson Engineering in Salt Lake City, and Johanson Land Consultants in Lehi.
The many years of experience and keeping on top of the constantly changing and advancing technology, makes him uniquely skilled in determining client’s needs using the best and most effective ways to get projects completed. These skills acquired through may years of experience, and with high tech knowledge makes him a great asset to those needing projects approved, and completed; thus having the skills not only to gather the needed basic information; but the experience to identify the projects needs early, and saving costs. This skill set completes the project survey from start to final construction, and greatly assists clients in determining projects needs and outcome.
Richard Johanson is currently licensed in Utah, and Colorado. He is a valued member of UCLS, and part owner in Johanson Land Consultants, and Property Design. He provides the experience, and tools for clients with Surveying & Project’s needs.
